If you’re anything like me, you’re pretty obsessed with Cobra Kai on Netflix. I’m a lifelong fan of The Karate Kid. I’ve seen the trilogy of movies countless amounts of times over the last 30 or so years. The film were fantastic, the characters and locations beyond great. But stepping back into the story 30 years later in the form of a TV series has been incredible. Cobra Kai is the best thing on TV and I for one cannot wait for Cobra Kai season 4.

What Is Cobra Kai?

Cobra Kai is the continuation of The Karate Kid story. Back in the 1980s we were introduced to Daniel Larusso, Johnny Lawrence, Mr Miyagi, John Kreese, Ali with an I and many other characters. The trilogy of films took us on a young boys journey from moving across America to anew ton and school, meeting a girl, encountering a bully, finding a karate teacher and then entering a tournament.

The story then took us to the origins of karate in part two, before returning to defend his title in the final part of the trilogy. Cobra Kai returns to the story 30 years later. The same characters, the lives they lead, and lots of karate and laughs along the way. Of course, being set three decades later, the characters we know have grown up, had kids of their own and we’re introduced to new storylines running through the streets of Encino and Reseda. Daniel is now married, Johnny has fallen on hard times, Mr Miyagi has passed on (RIP) and there’s new kid just arrived in town. A lot has happened in 30 years!

Why Is It So Good?

One of the reasons I think Cobra Kai is so good, is because it is a true continuation of the story we fell in love with in the 80s. It keeps parts of the original story, soundtrack, It also works so well because they’ve been able to bring back the same actors to play the same characters. Not only the main two characters of Daniel and Johnny, but side characters we met throughout the trilogy too. Daniel’s mother is played by the same actress. Johnny’s friends are played by the same actors. Without giving too much away, even the girl Daniel saves from the hurricane in part 2, is played by the same person! This is one of the reasons why it’s so good.

It nods to the original films in the language used, the phrases spoken, the soundtrack, the character interaction and the storylines. Even some of the episodes are named after stuff from the trilogy. There are little Easter eggs dotted around for die hard fans. The creators were even able to find a vault of unused and unseen footage from the original film. Mixing this into flashback footage we know, gave us new angles to enjoy. It’s written by fans, for fans.

Apparently that have plans for six seasons of Cobra Kai, so there is plenty to look forward to.

When Is Cobra Kai Season 4 Released?

The first two series of Cobra Kai ran on YouTube. It was then picked up by Netflix for a slightly delayed season 3. Season 3 was released as an entire series, available to binge watch from New Years Day 2021. Having watched these ten new episodes, which I think are some of the best of the series, I cannot wait for Cobra Kai season 4. But when will Cobra Kai season 4 be released? There have been no official announcements yet. However, a series tends to get released every year. With that in mind, we should likely expect Cobra Kai season 4 in January 2022.

There has been chatter about it being released towards the end of 2021 but personally, I’d leave it until New Years Day again. It gives fans something to look forward to in that post Christmas lull. Start the year with a crane kick.

Have you watched Cobra Kai? If not, what are you waiting for? Log onto Netflix now and see the continuation of the rivalry between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do. Fear does not exist in this dojo, does it? Wax on, wax off!
